Pôle Mécanique Alès-Cévennes – May 6th, 2018

The season finally begins for me!

Because of a bad weather, not wishing to go 800kms back and forth to ride 2, 3 sessions, I preferred to cancel my first weekend scheduled for April 8th and 9th 2018.

I was therefore looking forward to this weekend in May to, maybe, finally ride.

These two track days were organized by the Moto Club of the mechanical pole of Alès and we decided with a small group of friends to meet there.

The week before track days, the weather was far from optimistic, risk of thunderstorms and showers …

Motivated as ever, we decided to go there anyway …

  • Saturday, May 5, 2018 :

13:00 : The trunk of the car having been loaded the day before with all the necessary equipment/tools, we only have to load the motorcycles on the trailer before leaving.

Two motorcycles (Daytona & MT09) to tow for my aging Renault Megane, it’s far from won …

6 hours drive, Waze leading us in all directions, big traffic slowdowns after Montelimar, but we arrive around 20h … The motorcycles still on the trailer and the Megane alive !

20:00 : Friends arrived before us. They have already taken possession of the box and start unloading.

We do the same, we settle down…

Aperitif, shower, barbecue… Then sleep to be in shape the next day…

  • Sunday, May 6, 2018 :

07:30 : Waking up, tough night … The ultra-light/thin mattress used during my motorcycle trips is far from ideal when placed on concrete… My back and neck are slightly blocked. ..

We will quickly validate our registrations, passing motorcycles at the sound level control (95db on weekends, no problem with my original exhaust …).

We check the tire pressure, then we put the Daytona on the crutches to install the blankets, ready for the first session…

09:00 : Briefing for beginners/insiders. While the experts launch the day.

7 sessions of 15 minutes (3 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon), remind of flags, rules of the circuit…

We will be supervised this Sunday by Barbara Collet and Serge Nuques, who will monitor us and correct us so that we ride safely …

09:45 : We left, quietly, rediscovering the bike after the heavy work done this winter, breaking new tires and paying attention to beginners who put their wheels on track for the first time…

10:45 / 11:45 : We chained the sessions and finding pleasure… The braking no longer cause pain in the collarbone, the weather is perfect and the pace increases slowly…

12:30 : It’s time to regain strength, a good and fat barbecue… In order to have an apology if we drag the rest of the day …

14:00 : The MotoGP starts and is broadcast live in the briefing room. Unfortunately for beginners, the first session of the afternoon will not allow us to see the end of the Grand Prix…

14:45 / 15:45 / 16:45 / 17:45 : The afternoon sessions go smoothly, and the left knee will rub several times… A beginner will unfortunately fall during the last session, shortening it, certainly for the good of all, feeling tired after a long day, an error can quickly happen …

For now, it is better than last year, even if we are still far from those of the higher groups… We will comfort ourselves by saying that it was not the goal of the day and that the main was to finish it on its wheels while regaining confidence in the bike …

We will also be entitled to some pretty shots taken by the photographer, Christian Dassonneville present today :

A nice day, appreciated by all our group. A weather much better than what was announced, a good atmosphere, beautiful motorcycles, and no breaks on our side… We’ll go to bed early, and we put it back the next day!
